Why Churches Die

Ergun Caner and Mac Brunson have written a book that is both entertaing, encouraging, and informative.  In Why Churches Die: Diagnosing Letal Poisons In The Body of Christ, Brunson and Caner expose many of the leading causes of division within the church such as spiritual apathy, gossip, and bitterness.  In their own words,

A truly infected gossip is not even aware that he is gossiping.  In fact, he will be offended when you point out his sin to him.  He has been doing it for so long and so often that he knows no other way.  It has taken root in his charcter.

The authors write with the candor of men who have served in the local church as pastors and with the accumen and credentials of men who have excelled in acadamia as well.  Their prescriptions are needed in the church and, if lived out can bring healing to the Body of Christ.

The wit and wisdom is priceless, and the illustrations are spot on.  You will laugh at how closely many of their fictional characters resemble the complainers and drainers within your own congregation, but we should all cry that the spiritual maladies of which they speak are so common that we can all relate.
