Keep Your Promises

“By the time my son John was six years old he had figured out that if we promised to take him to the local ice cream parlor on Friday night, then no matter how tired we might be when Friday rolled around, we were going to go!  If we hesitated, even for a moment, all he had to do was say, ‘You promised!’  He had come to realize that we placed a high value on keeping our word (we were trying to imitate God to our kids–Eph. 5:1-2).  We learned quickly never to make a promise we did not intend to keep.”
