The Bible Works

The Bible is the Word of God. It is more than a book, it is The Book. It makes good on its promises because its promises are God’s promises. God meets you where you are through your interactions with the Bible.
119:129-136
129 Your testimonies are wonderful;
    therefore my soul keeps them.
130 The unfolding of your words gives light;
    it imparts understanding to the simple.
131 I open my mouth and pant,
    because I long for your commandments.
132 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
    as is your way with those who love your name.
133 Keep steady my steps according to your promise,
    and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
134 Redeem me from man’s oppression,
    that I may keep your precepts.
135 Make your face shine upon your servant,
    and teach me your statutes.
136 My eyes shed streams of tears,
    because people do not keep your law.

Go or Woah

We bought a new puppy three months ago. Puppies do not arrive trained, they pee in the floor for fun and chew on everything. Young dogs require time and consistency if they are to ever become good dogs. As a part of my puppy training efforts, I’ve done some reading and picked up a book on training …

Don’t Be Afraid to Preach

Pastor, don’t be afraid to do what God called you to do. Take a moment to reflect back upon your calling. When God called you, he called you to pastor, but the first inclination for most pastors is to preach. God made you into a pastor and a preacher. Don’t be afraid to preach just …

New Life: A Resurrection Sermon

The theme of this stanza is “The Lord is My Life.” In the ancient world (and really today), people could only settle where there was a spring or well to provide water. Water was life. On Easter we celebrate the well that springs up to eternal life. The darkness of Friday couldn’t kill the light of the world. Jesus gave Himself to the Father and the Father did not forsake Him. The will of God is good and you can trust Him. He’s all you need. Do you know Him?

Psalm 119:121-128
121 I have done what is just and right;
do not leave me to my oppressors.
122 Give your servant a pledge of good;
let not the insolent oppress me.
123 My eyes long for your salvation
and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise.
124 Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love,
and teach me your statutes.
125 I am your servant; give me understanding,
that I may know your testimonies!
126 It is time for the Lord to act,
for your law has been broken.
127 Therefore I love your commandments
above gold, above fine gold.
128 Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right;
I hate every false way.

Love Covers All Wrongs

Love covers all wrongs. That is the message of Proverbs 10:12, Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses. Love covers offenses. Love is not immune from being offended, but love seeks to cover over them when possible. To cover an offense is not to forget it or to pretend that it was somehow …

A Light To My Path

God’s Word lights our way. Even in the valley of the shadow of death, we need not fear for God is with us. His Word guides and directs us. The snares of the wicked are revealed through the light of God’s Word. Are you trusting God’s Word to light your path?

Psalm 119:105-112

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
    and a light to my path.
106 I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
    to keep your righteous rules.
107 I am severely afflicted;
    give me life, O Lord, according to your word!
108 Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord,
    and teach me your rules.
109 I hold my life in my hand continually,
    but I do not forget your law.
110 The wicked have laid a snare for me,
    but I do not stray from your precepts.
111 Your testimonies are my heritage forever,
    for they are the joy of my heart.
112 I incline my heart to perform your statutes
    forever, to the end.

I’m Sorry That Your Apology Stinks: The Art of Apologizing Well

You have experienced them yourself, maybe you have even uttered a few of them. They are called bad apologies, and here are a few of my favorites: These apologies that are actually no apologies at all. They masquerade as apologies, but instead they are just the opposite of apologies. These kinds of statement do not …
